"Possibility and promise greet me each day as I walk out into my garden. My vigor is renewed when I breathe in the earthiness and feel the dirt between my fingers. My garden is a peaceful spot to refresh my soul." Meems

Day 8: Twelve Days of Christmas in a Florida Garden

["Just for fun and also because we just keep right on gardening through December here in Florida, I'm going to challenge myself and post something from my garden everyday for twelve days. Think of it as 'excerpts from Hoe & Shovel.' It may just be a flower (or two) or it may be an informative post or it may involve a give-away. It may include lots of thoughts or none at all. ]

Day 8: A Few Scenes from the Back Garden

From the back side of one of the new beds looking across to the far side. Can you see the Giant Crinum way in the back of the photo?

Ahhh, that's better. And do you see the new buds bursting out. There are two on the newly transplanted Giant. I'll take that as a vote of happiness for its new home.

A little broader view from the back side again.

A view of the bed where the tropicalesque pathway begins. The coleus are not as pretty as they were in the spring but they are hanging on and giving it a good try to make it through autumn.

Christmas is the season for kindling the fire of hospitality in the hall, the genial flame of charity in the heart."
Washington Irving (1783-1859), American short-story writer and essayist.

  2. Your christmas decorations at the beginning of your blog are so pretty. Your garden is gorgeous as usual. It is nice to see your garden still flourishing since mine if frozen. It is a warmth in the hall...

  3. The variegated Alpinias light up that bed. Shell gingers have not gone dormant here as yet, but the time is coming.

  4. That GIGANTIC crinum is a real beauty. We have several of the red-tinged variety in our neighborhood that are putting out blooms as well. Very pretty!
