"Possibility and promise greet me each day as I walk out into my garden. My vigor is renewed when I breathe in the earthiness and feel the dirt between my fingers. My garden is a peaceful spot to refresh my soul." Meems

Hooray for the Red, White, and Blue

Sitting on my porch this morning, in the distance, a brilliant red flower backlit by the first rays of light filtering through the back garden caught my eye. The brightness of the Salvia greggii illuminated by morning sunshine gave me pause for remembering the importance of this day.

I love America. I love our freedom. I love patriotism. I love everything good about America and believe it is worth defending.

Thank you to the men and women who do appreciate America and cherish our freedoms even to the point of laying down their own lives. They are demonstrating their love of country in the deserts of Afghanistan and Iraq and in other far away places. May God bless them and protect them. May we always honor their service as well as the ones who have gone before them and the sacrifice of their loved ones who will miss them tremendously this holiday weekend.

As I celebrate America's birthday with my family today I will be thanking God I live in a blessed country and will continue to remind myself how very very good we have it.
May these flowers from Hoe & Shovel this morning symbolize my simple thank you and tribute to all the men and women who have selflessly sacrificed their own lives to secure my freedom.
"It is the duty of nations... to own their dependence upon the overruling power of God... and to recognize the sublime truth, announced in the Holy Scriptures and proven by all history, that those nations only are blessed whose God is the Lord."
... Abraham Lincoln
Have a very happy July 4th!

  11. Yes, from working in other countries I have gained an appreciation of how lucky I am to have been born where I was, and yes, in America you do live in a blessed country and have it very good compared to most.

  12. nicole: I can imagine you see such differences in all your travels. In America the good FAR outweighs the bad. We've been through rough times before and we will get through these rough times if we all stay thankful and appreciative for the blessings.
