"Possibility and promise greet me each day as I walk out into my garden. My vigor is renewed when I breathe in the earthiness and feel the dirt between my fingers. My garden is a peaceful spot to refresh my soul." Meems

Children Say the Sweetest Things

My favorite 3 year old garden helper was dropped off here for the evening late this afternoon. The first words out of his mouth were, "Mimi, can I go out to see your garden?"
Now you tell me. Would that not melt any gardener's heart? So off we went.
While he was making his way around the pathways of stepping stones he says in passing, "Mimi, your garden is so pretty." At those sweet and thoughtful words I turn into complete mush!

We played out in the backyard until almost dark. Looking up we noticed a most interesting sky with stripes of puffy white clouds illuminated on the edges with a brilliant white glow.

  1. And don't you love it that children say what's on their mind and are truthful like that! I have to agree with him- beautiful garden!

  4. How lovely, he is going to be a real charmer! My grandson is also three but I haven't seen him since he was 6 weeks old, he lives in Australia.

    Best wishes Sylvia (England)

  5. Aunty Debbi,
    He does like his cookies!

    Tessa,
Yes, I do love how children cannot be fooled. They are just so "out there" with their thoughts.

    Ewa,
He loves to be outside with me every minute. And he is very interested in the vegetables that grow and will actually ask me the most intellegient questions. I'm a little partial obviously, but he is very bright.

    Beckie,
The carrot photo is from the last harvest a few weeks ago. I am in love with homegrown carrots --they have been so delish. I'm planting them in rounds every few weeks so I won't run out.

My little guy got a BIG "you melt my heart" hug -- which he only tolerates momentarily but I still give them as often as possible.

    Sylvia,
Oh my... Australia is a very long way from England. I can see why it would be difficult to visit. I'm sure you get to visit by way of every technical device possible. Fortunately talking on webcam is easy these days.

  6. Somebody's raising that boy right :-) I predict great things for him if he can appreciate a garden so early in life.

  7. There is a future gardener in the making, how nice to have a wholesome influence on these little ones! One of my granddaughter's favorite things is to help me water my garden, and of course...snack on cherry tomatoes. :-)

  10. Carolyn Gail,
I'll say. He is full of personality and charm... so is his mom.

    Connie,
They do love the water. The photo of my little one is him sticking his hand in the bird bath... over and over ... he just can't resist. He has his own watering can over here and helps me with my chores whenever I'll let him.

    Lola,
    THE best!

    Arissamae,
Thanks for sharing him... and thanks for being such a first class mom.

    Gail,
So true. At this age it is a mutual admiration... I'm soaking it up while it lasts.

  11. Aww, he couldn't have been coached to say anything nicer! That would turn my heart to mush too. You do have a beautiful garden Meems. I am always sorry I don't get here more often. The azaleas are gorgeous. I think the dark pink/fuschia is my favorite. It looks like they are doing great left to their own devices!

  13. Oh my gosh. He knows what to say to Mimi at 3, you know he is going to be quite the ladies man when he grows up. tee hee... He is a sweetheart.

Your garden looks like it has recovered nicely from the big freezes.

I love the new Header pictures.

  14. What a sweetie! My grandson and I walked around the beds all summer, and now, he still likes to go out when we can. Today, he pointed to the door, and we opened it and just looked out at the snow. I am looking forward to when he gets your guy's age. This summer, I'll be having to make sure he doesn't pull things up. LOL
