morning feed

it has always been my hope to photograph some of the birds that frequent my bird feeders. i'm not complaining but my 'less than great' camera just won't let me get close enough. lately the birds have been allowing me to get a little closer without flying away. they must sense i am the hand that feeds them and i won't harm them. :-) these aren't the greatest pics but they are the best i have. we have so many cardinals in our neighborhood - i think these are three females because they don't have the bright coloring. at one point in my life i was given two finches then i had a cockatiel and after she was gone acquired 2 lovebirds all of which i kept inside my house. i admit i am often tempted to do it again but enjoying wild birds while i'm gardening is so much easier than cleaning cages and birdie-care when traveling.

  1. i like this pic. odd that the girl birds are less colorful when we all know that men are the sight-driven ones! maybe it's opposite in the animal kingdom, and the male birds are busy complaining that their mates don't appreciate their bird brains.

  2. Last weekend I saw a beatiful cardinal at my parents. I think I have heard before that it is the male cardinals that are red. It sounds familiar.

    Another random piece of trivia: Did you know that there are approxiametly 9 million people in the world with your birthday?

  3. I've really been enjoying your garden pics! I dream of a gorgeous yard like that, but the ability to create one isn't one of my gifts. 8-}

    I can relate to your 'less than great' camera woes. My first digital was so frustrating. After scrimping and saving for a better one, the hardest part was choosing.

    I'm hoping Duller (dh) will get a job offer in your area. I was born & raised in Pinellas County and would welcome a chance to live there again. When we lived in New Port Richey, a day trip to Tampa was a real treat. We'd always stop at a little shop in Lutz to buy fish food, etc. Ah, the memories... 8-]
