"Possibility and promise greet me each day as I walk out into my garden. My vigor is renewed when I breathe in the earthiness and feel the dirt between my fingers. My garden is a peaceful spot to refresh my soul." Meems

Sweet Relief Today

Walking outside early today we were greeted with a notable change in our weather.

Floridians know immediately when we experience even the slightest change in our usual humid weather. This morning brought us a wonderful, even though small, relief from muggy conditions.

Still 78 degrees but drier air and THAT makes all the difference in the world.

Maybe finally some of the dry side of the cool air blessing the rest of the country has made its way down here. I hope it stays... at least a little while.

Other than carrying my pruners along to snip a few things here and there, I wasn't outside to do any gardening today.

No, I had a much more important charge to tend to since yesterday. Our 2- 1/2 year old cutie was staying with his Mimi & Papa so we were out early to do some serious playing while the cooler breezes were blowing.

It was so nice to actually enjoy sitting about in the garden. Especially since I was watching one of my favorite little fellows in the whole world play as hard as he could all morning. Then we moved to the pool to cool off.

I did manage to take a couple of garden photos while I was snapping away.

A-Ha... I see you, Mr. Eastern Lubber, menace of my garden, hiding in the middle of the agapanthus seed pods. Yeah, he wasn't around to get hungry again after this photo shoot. Voracious eaters of all things green they are and some things caladium... aaaarrrrggghhhh!

We are heading out of town again this weekend. Not sure if I'll ever catch up on my blog visiting again. Please know that I appreciate every visitor to Hoe and Shovel and in a few weeks I'll have more time to visit you.
Have a wonderful gardening weekend.
Blessings,
Meems

  3. I noticed the change in temp this morning too! Made me wish I had gotten up and taken advantage of the cooler morning and jogged.

Glad that the weather allowed some time outside with the little guy today!

I thought of you the other day when I was perusing a local garden center. I saw the lemon lime plant that you talked about earlier in the summer.

    Are you going to the FSU/Wake Forest game? If you get a chance, come by my place and pick up your award. 8-}

  7. What a cutie! The little guy, not the lubber.

My garden has been attacked by lubbers this year. I've gotten rid of at least 30 of them. I never had a problem with them before. I've caught them eating mostly crinums & stromanthe.

    Have a good trip! :)

  9. Woke up this morning to find a very heavy frost. We had warning so the wife covered everything in the veg garden and I put a heavy blanket on the bed. Heating season is just around the corner.

  13. Now meems, that's why people need grass; for little darlings to romp on! What a joy he must be for you and Papa!

  14. Great looking little slugger you have there. Looks like major material to me.
Not the menace on your seed pod. They eat everything. My cannas look like a hail storm hit them. Leaves all gnawed up but still blooming their little hearts out.

  15. Fun to catch up, Meems. My grandboys (soon 7 and 5 1/2) think Mimi's garden is heaven! Both have cheap cameras and follow me around as I shoot, wondering what in the world I am focusing on. I plant fossiles for them to find and both now have an interest in naming flowers. Life is good ;)

  17. Thank you for watching my son and for showing him a world that I never could. I'm blessed that he is growing up in a garden. He loves his Mimi and Papa even more than he loves baseball---and you KNOW how much he loves baseball! :o)
