"Possibility and promise greet me each day as I walk out into my garden. My vigor is renewed when I breathe in the earthiness and feel the dirt between my fingers. My garden is a peaceful spot to refresh my soul." Meems

can i get you a cup of coffee?

a garden without a place to sit and linger might be downright uninviting. how often do we work many long hours and not leave time to take in the fresh air without our gloves on and pruners in hand? there are several seating places throughout my yard. these two adirondack chairs i prefer to let age naturally with their grayish patina, placed at one corner of the screened cage, are my personal favorites.

all my seating arrangements used to be just for effect, you know, because every garden has them. it isn't my nature to sit very often. as the years go by (more rapidly all the time) making time to sit a spell once in a while isn't as hard to do. i find it rewarding to relax and enjoy the fruits of my labor and God's handiwork of sights and sounds.
(you've heard of those people who crank down the air conditioning in order to start a fire in the fireplace? i'm one of those people who gets in the pool in order to be cool enough for a hot cup of coffee in the evening.)
on these hot summer days of july and august i can be found in this spot most mornings just before the sun comes up and after the sun goes down. on a crisp cool fall, winter or spring day (oh how i'm longing for one of those) hubby and i can stretch out in these chairs with a book and cup of coffee for a couple of hours and read (or chat- well, me chat and him listen) our hearts away. what about you? do you have a favorite relax place and/or time?

  1. I might just have named this blog "Taking Time to Smell the Roses!" How many of us allow ourselves the valuable time to do this? We work, work, work, and seldom do we sit down and relish the results. We are usually going ninety-to-nothing and wondering why life seems so dull.

You have invited us into your garden via this blog, and it is a restful respite with just the beautiful photos. Thank you for this reminder to create some personal "down time" with a little corner somewhere of our own. It may not be as lush as yours, but we are certainly inspired to make it somewhat a special place to relax and "enjoy the fruits of our labor"!

P.S. I am so glad to know "these two adirondack chairs ... are my personal favorites" ;-)

  4. I love sitting in a beautiful spot to read and drink my coffee. During colder days it would be on my screened in porch but now in the heat it is in a corner chair in the living room that is away from the TV area.

  5. I agree, there is nothing better than a quiet place to sit and enjoy a cup of coffee. When I was at my parents I took one morning and enjoyed some time to myself on their deck. Just me, my coffee, and my Bible. Ahhhhh...

  6. sg: your title is a good one. can you believe i don't have any roses? i uprooted several last fall to make a new bed and replaced with several other flowering plants... but no roses.

pocahontas: thanks for stopping by. re-shaping is forever on-going. it is good to do a little at at time and make it enjoyable.

as: how about a cold bottle of water?

pk: do you also light candles for no reason just to make your world nicer when you relax?

jane: ahhhh is so right! that is my very favorite early morning thing to do.

  7. You have such a great sitting spot, actually there are so many. The last time E and I were there to visit we commented on how one decides where to sit with so many options. We often can't decide on the front porch or back at our own home. One thing is for sure you passed your love of sitting outdoors along to me as I truly enjoy sitting on my porch with a cup of coffee and a good book. It was one of the things I had to have after looking at new homes(a good sitting porch with rockers and a swing).....

  8. nt: we come from a long line of rocking chair porch sitters so it was bound to be passed along. i could sit on your front porch and rock any time... you and E have created a warm and welcoming entrance to your home.
